Course Title: Introduction to Incident Command System

Description: This course provides training and resources for personnel who require a basic understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS). It introduces the ICS and provides the foundation for higher-level ICS training. This course describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of the ICS. It also explains the relationship between ICS and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).

Course Objectives:

  • Describe ICS applications.
  • Explain ICS organizational principles and elements.
  • Identify ICS positions and responsibilities.
  • Identify ICS facilities and functions.
  • Describe ICS principles.

Target Audience: Any WashU personnel member that may be given a specific assignment by the Emergency Operations Center and/or as designated within the Emergency Operations Plan. For the Operations and Facilities Management Department, this includes Facilities Engineering Technicians, Business Office personnel and all Protective Services personnel.

Course Title: Incident Command System for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents

Description: This course is designed to enable personnel to operate efficiently during an incident or event within the Incident Command System (ICS). ICS-200 provides training and resources for personnel who are likely to assume a supervisory position within the ICS.

Course Objectives: At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe ICS organization appropriate to the complexity of the incident or event.
  • Use ICS to manage an incident.
  • Describe ICS Leadership and Management.
  • Explain Delegation of Authority and Management by Objectives.
  • Identify ICS Functional Areas and Positions.
  • Describe ICS Briefings.
  • Explain Organizational Flexibility.
  • Describe Transfer of Command.

Target Audience: Mid-level supervisors and above with a management or supervisory role on campus during a disaster event

Course Title: National Incident Management System, An Introduction

Description: This course provides a basic introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS provides a consistent nationwide template to enable all government, private sector, and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents. It provides training and resources for personnel who require a basic understanding of NIMS. It is not designed to replace Incident Command System or position-specific training.

Course Objectives: At the end of this course, participants will be able to describe:

  • The intent of NIMS.
  • Key concepts and principles underlying NIMS.
  • The purpose of the NIMS components, including Preparedness, Communications and Information Management, Resource Management, and Command and Management.
  • The purpose of the National Integration Center.

Target Audience: Any WashU personnel member that may be given a specific assignment by the Emergency Operations Center and/or as designated within the Emergency Operations Plan. Description: This course introduces participants to the concepts and principles of the National Response Framework (NRF).

Course Objectives: At the end of this course, participants will be able to describe:

  • The purpose of the NRF.
  • The response doctrine established by the NRF.
  • The roles and responsibilities of entities as specified in the NRF.
  • The actions that support national response.
  • The response organizations used for Multi-Agency Coordination.
  • How planning relates to national preparedness.

Target Audience: Mid-level supervisors and above with a management or supervisory role on campus during a disaster event

Course Title: Intermediate Incident Command System for Expanding Incidents

Description: This course provides training for personnel who require advanced application of the Incident Command System (ICS). This course expands upon information covered in the ICS-100 and ICS-200 courses.

Course Objectives: At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe how the National Incident Management System Command and Management component supports the management of expanding incidents.
  • Describe the Incident/ Event Management process for supervisors and expanding incidents as prescribed by the ICS.
  • Implement the Incident Management process on a simulated Type 3 incident.
  • Develop an Incident Action Plan for a simulated incident.

Target Audience: Directors, Assistant Directors, Master Response Officers, Protective Services Supervisory Personnel, WashU Incident Management Team members, EOC Liaisons on campus and individuals who may be required to perform the role of an Incident Commander during an emergency event

Description: This course provides training for personnel who require advanced application of the Incident Command System (ICS). This course expands upon information covered in ICS-100 through ICS-300 courses, which are prerequisites for the ICS-400 course.

Course Objectives: At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe how the National Incident Management System Command and Management component supports the management of expanding incidents.
  • Describe the Incident/ Event Management process for supervisors and expanding incidents as prescribed by the ICS.
  • Implement the Incident Management process on a simulated Type 3 incident.
  • Develop an Incident Action Plan for a simulated incident.

Target Audience: Emergency Management and EOC Management Personnel
