Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. In the event of a cardiac arrest, an automated external defibrillator (AED) can deliver a lifesaving electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. There are more than 400 AEDs located across WashU’s campuses.
AED Program
The WashU AED Program is responsible for the Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), batteries and pads, AED cabinets and alarms, replenishment and replacement, bleeding control kits, maintenance checks and AED/CPR/Bleeding control awareness. Request an in-person demonstration by emailing washuready@wustl.edu.
If you notice that an AED is missing from a cabinet, or one that is beeping due to a low battery, please notify the Emergency Management Department at WashUReady@wustl.edu.

Washington University’s Emergency Support Team offers CPR and AED courses for WashU students and employees. Learn more and sign up here. Additional courses are offered through the American Red Cross and CPR Plus. School of Medicine employees are also eligible for trainings through the Faculty Practice Plan.
